If you’re new here, hello! I’m Kirsty – the smiley face behind everything here at Signed & Sorted Estate Planning in South Devon. And if you’ve followed my work for a while, welcome back!

I’m an independent will writer and consultant based in Newton Abbot, providing estate planning for people who want clear, practical guidance about planning for the future. I help people put the right plans in place for the future – such as Wills, Will Trusts and Lasting Powers of Attorney – in a way that feels clear, calm and manageable. No jargon. No pressure. No scare tactics.

Estate Planning in South Devon: Where It All Began

Before launching my own business in 2024, I worked for several years as a legal advisor at a local firm. After having my children, I stepped away from that role for a time, but the work never really left me.

In September 2021, I lost my mum. Like many families during the pandemic, we were dealing with grief alongside paperwork and uncertainty. This brought everything into sharp focus. It wasn’t the start of my career in this area, but it was a time that confirmed I needed to come back to it - this time with a clear purpose.

I wanted to use my experience to help families avoid unnecessary stress at an already difficult time. I also wanted to be the person who explains things clearly, takes the time people need, and makes estate planning feel less overwhelming and more human. Taking away the fear around these conversations matters just as much as the legal documents themselves. That’s what led me to launch my business in 2024, originally under the name KMD Wills & Estate Planning, and more recently to rebrand as Signed & Sorted Estate Planning.

So, Why the Change?

Simply put, the name changed because the business evolved. What I do isn’t about complicated legal language or simply ticking boxes. My approach also isn't the same as what you might expect from a typical high-street firm. Instead, it’s about helping real people get things signed and sorted, in a way that suits them. Once plans are in place, they can stop worrying about the “what ifs” and get on with living their lives knowing things are organised.

Who I Work With

I work with a wide range of clients. Many are parents of young children, couples, property owners or small business owners. Others are older clients who want to protect assets and plan ahead.

Quite often people come to me feeling unsure or overwhelmed. In many cases they’ve been meaning to sort things out for years but just didn’t know where to start. My role is to guide them through the process step by step, at a pace that feels comfortable. And, of course, there is always time to ask questions along the way!

What Clients Can Expect

Working with me, clients can expect clear explanations in plain English and a supportive, no-rush approach. There is always time and space to ask questions - even the ones you think you should already know. In my consultations, there really is no such thing as a silly question.

I offer appointments by phone, online and through home visits, because estate planning should fit around real life, not the other way around.

About the Blog

I want this blog to be an extension of the same approach that I take with my clients. Here, I’ll be sharing straightforward guidance on Wills and Lasting Powers of Attorney, along with common misconceptions and why they matter. I’ll also cover practical next steps to help you feel more confident about planning ahead.

Whether you’re ready to take action now or are just starting to think about it, you’re very welcome here. If future planning has been sitting on your to-do list for a while, you’re in the right place.

FAQ: Do I Need Estate Planning if I Already Have a Will?

Many people assume that once they’ve written a Will, everything is taken care of. In reality, estate planning often includes other important steps, such as reviewing how property is owned or putting Lasting Powers of Attorney in place.

Looking at the bigger picture can help ensure your wishes are properly protected and that your family has clear guidance if something happens in the future.

Estate Planning in South Devon and Surrounding Areas

Although I’m based in Newton Abbot, I work with clients across South Devon, including Torquay, Paignton, Totnes, Teignmouth and the surrounding areas.

As mentioned earlier, appointments are available by phone, online or through home visits where appropriate. This helps make estate planning support accessible and convenient for local families.
